Some spidering stuff

I work on this website for more then a year now Global Hotel Review as you probably guess it is a hotel review website go and check it out I’m sure you will like it then come back and read this :)

One feature that I’m working on this days it showing to users the price for the hotel they are reading about … now when I start this in my mind seems like an easy quest and I give myself a deadline of 2 weeks well is over a month now and still I’m not done I probably drive Nawar crazy :)  (Nwar is my partner in this GHR site)

So how do I do that, well basically we chose some “target” sites from where to read the information (room price in our case) and we can do that of course from hotel reservation portals like expedia.com or travelocity.com and so on there are allot out there.

And from here the hard work starts I will not write code in here … I will probably create a new blog for that … but I will explain the concept maybe someone wants to do something like it and don’t know where to start, basically all this reservation portals have a search field or an advanced search page this last one is better as it gives you a more accurate result, now after you have found this page you just need to create a script that will post to that page your info and after you post the info you need a little script that reads the result then you read it and compare the data with the one you have, for example for a hotel like is on my case you compare the hotel name, city, country maybe address to make sure that what you have in the result is the correct one.

Well the concept seems quite easy doesn’t :) I will work to integrate an AJAX loading with it because as we add more sites the page will load slower … so an AJAX loading is the way to go after the entire page has loaded.

In theory I should be driven crazy!, but knowing claudiu’s moving target deadlines!, and after 2 years of collaboration, I learned that claudiu’s deadlines are something of a dream, a wish, a concept for the perfect world : ) , but the guy does a wonderful job when he gets it done and this is what counts.

    keep the good work!
